Characteristics of Monel 400
Monel 400 is a material, also known as 400 alloy, N04400 alloy, nickel-copper alloy, Monel alloy, NiCu30, etc. Known for its excellent corrosion resistance, it performs well in a variety of environments. Compared with nickel-copper, Monel 400 generally has better performance, is more resistant to corrosion by reducing media, and is more resistant to oxidizing media than pure copper. It also has excellent corrosion properties against sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and carbon. Monel 400 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in fluorine gas, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, hydrofluoric acid and its derivatives, especially in resisting the corrosion of hydrochloric acid, and also has outstanding resistance in high-temperature concentrated alkali solutions. corrosive. This makes it one of the few alloys capable of being used in fluoride environments.
Monel 400 has many advantageous properties and is a widely used corrosion-resistant alloy. It has excellent corrosion resistance in hydrofluoric acid and fluorine gas media, and also has excellent corrosion resistance to high-temperature concentrated alkali liquids. In addition, it is resistant to corrosion from neutral solutions, water, seawater, atmosphere and organic compounds. It is worth mentioning that Monel 400 is generally not prone to stress corrosion cracking and has good cutting performance.
Regarding corrosion resistance, Monel 400 performs well in a variety of environments. It is resistant to sulfuric acid in concentrations less than 85% and is one of the few important materials that can withstand hydrofluoric acid. In most cases of water corrosion, Monel 400 not only has excellent corrosion resistance, but also has rare problems such as pitting corrosion and stress corrosion. Its corrosion rate is extremely low, less than 0.025mm/a. In high-temperature environments, its corrosion rate is also very low. It can usually work continuously in the air. The maximum temperature is generally around 600°C. The corrosion rate in high-temperature steam is less than 0.026mm/a. Due to the high nickel content in Monel 400, it can withstand corrosion under anhydrous ammonia and ammoniation conditions, up to temperatures below 585°C.
