Duplex stainless steel 2507, also known as super duplex steel 2507, its brand name is UNS S32750. This kind of stainless steel is a ferritic-austenitic (duplex) stainless steel, which combines the excellent properties of ferritic steel and austenitic steel. Due to its high chromium and molybdenum content, it has excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, chloride corrosion, crevice corrosion and uniform corrosion. Its dual-phase microstructure ensures its excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking while providing excellent mechanical strength.
General Corrosion: Duplex 2507 stainless steel contains high levels of chromium and molybdenum, making it highly resistant to general corrosion such as organic acids such as formic acid and acetic acid.
Inorganic acids: 2507 has strong corrosion resistance against inorganic acids, especially those containing chloride. Compared with 904L, 2507 is more suitable for dealing with dilute sulfuric acid corrosion containing chloride ions (904L is specifically designed to resist pure sulfuric acid corrosion). Unlike grade 316L, 2507 can be used in environments containing hydrochloric acid and exhibits strong resistance to spot and crevice corrosion.
Intergranular corrosion: Due to the low carbon content of 2507, it reduces the risk of carbide precipitation during heat treatment, so it has excellent resistance to carbide-related intergranular corrosion.
Stress corrosion cracking: The dual-phase structure of 2507 gives it excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, and its corrosion resistance and strength are better than 2205 dual-phase steel. In fields including construction, crevice corrosion is almost inevitable. Stainless steel is susceptible to corrosion in chloride environments, but 2507 has excellent resistance to crevice corrosion. In sulfuric acid containing 2000ppm chloride ions, its corrosion rate is only 0.1 mm/year; it also shows excellent corrosion resistance in hydrochloric acid.
2507 has excellent compressive strength and impact strength, low thermal expansion coefficient and good thermal conductivity, making it suitable for many structural parts and mechanical components. However, prolonged exposure to temperatures above 570°F should be avoided to avoid weakening its toughness.
