Duplex stainless steel 2205, also known as 2205 duplex steel, its grades are UNS S31803 and S32205. It is a ferritic-austenitic duplex stainless steel composed of 21% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel nitrogen. . It has excellent properties including high strength, good impact toughness, and overall and local stress corrosion resistance. Compared with austenitic stainless steel, it has a lower thermal expansion coefficient and higher thermal conductivity.
Uniform corrosion: Due to its high content of chromium (22%), molybdenum (3%) and nitrogen (0.18%), 2205 has better corrosion resistance than 316L and 317L in most environments.
Local corrosion resistance: The chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen content in 2205 duplex steel gives it excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in oxidizing and acidic solutions.
Resistance to Stress Corrosion: The microstructure of duplex stainless steel helps improve its resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Relative to austenitic stainless steels, it exhibits greater resistance to certain temperatures, stresses, the presence of oxygen and chlorides. This is even more restrictive for stainless steels such as 304L, 316L and 317L.
Resistance to Corrosion Fatigue: 2205 Duplex Steel has excellent resistance to corrosion fatigue due to its high strength and corrosion resistance. This makes it ideal for use in general processing equipment subject to corrosive environments and loading cycles.
